APPLICATIONS · ELEVATOR SYSTEMS
Elevator position sensing is not just about detecting floor levels. It is about door interlocking safety, overtravel protection, and millions of cycles across decades of service. The right switch keeps the car moving. The wrong one keeps people waiting — or worse.
THE DEMANDS
Elevator safety components must meet specific standards that vary by region. European installations require TUV-certified safety switches with positive-break operation. CE and UKCA documentation must be available at the point of installation and inspection.
A commercial elevator in an office building can exceed 200,000 door cycles per year. Over the 20 to 30 year service life of the installation, the switch must perform reliably through millions of mechanical actuations without drift in operating force or contact resistance.
When a position switch fails on a factory conveyor, production pauses. When one fails in an elevator, people are stuck between floors. The maintenance cost of a failed switch is not just the replacement part. It is the emergency call-out, the technician visit, and the building manager who never wants to hear that model number again.
SWITCH POSITIONS
POSITION SENSING
As the car approaches each floor, limit switches detect the landing position and signal the controller to decelerate and level the car. Accuracy here determines whether passengers step out onto a flush surface or a trip hazard. Switches must maintain consistent actuation force and repeatability across millions of cycles.

SAFETY
Before the car moves, the door interlock switch must confirm every landing door is closed and locked. This is a safety-rated function — the switch must provide positive-break operation so that even if contacts weld, the circuit opens. European and Asian elevator codes specify safety-rated switches for this position.

LIMIT
At the top and bottom of the shaft, overtravel limit switches act as the final safeguard. If the normal stopping system fails, these switches cut power before the car or counterweight hits the buffer. They must function after years of inactivity — sitting unused in a shaft environment, then tripping reliably the one time they are needed.

WHAT MATTERS
Same switch, year after year An elevator installed in 2010 will need replacement parts in 2030. The switch specified at installation must still be available two decades later. We maintain tooling for legacy models and do not discontinue a series just because a newer one exists.
Every TMAZTZ safety switch ships with traceable production dates and full certification documentation. When the lift inspector asks for the component certificate, your technician has it. TUV, CE, UKCA, CB, and CCC — annually audited and current.
Our switch mounting dimensions follow industry-standard patterns. When a technician replaces a failed switch, the new one fits the existing mounting holes. No re-drilling. No adapter plates. No extra site visit.
For a piece of equipment that costs tens of thousands of euros and serves hundreds of people every day, the price difference between an adequate switch and a reliable one is negligible. What matters is whether the building manager ever needs to think about it again.
BUILT TO LAST
Every TMAZTZ switch carries a production date, traceable to its manufacturing batch. When a replacement is needed — whether next year or fifteen years from now — we can trace the original specification, confirm compatibility, and ship the correct model.
Our modular product architecture means the same base platform supports multiple actuator heads. For elevator applications, this means a single approved base can be configured for floor detection, door interlock, or overtravel — simplifying certification management for the elevator manufacturer.
